Lamborghini Sesto Elemento set for limited production

Supercar fans rejoice. The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, first revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show less than two months ago, has been confirmed for production. Well, kind of, anyway.

Lamborghini has confirmed it will build between seven and 10 examples of its Sesto Elemento.

These are rather small numbers, and as is always the way they will be accompanied by one very large, depressing number. But we will worry about that later.

For now, here are some large numbers that will do less damage to your wallet: 5.2-litre V10 engine, 419kW, 539Nm of torque, 0-100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds, top speed in excess of 350km/h, total weight 999kg.

The Sesto Elemento shares its engine with the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, and weight is kept down by the extensive (almost exclusive) use of carbon fibre.

Lamborghini is no stranger to operating limited production runs of its concept vehicles. In 2008-2009 it built 21 Reventon supercars, each priced at one million euros ($1.4 million).

And now for that big number.

Lamborghini says it is yet to calculate how much each Sesto Elemento will cost to purchase, but estimates it will be around $3.5 million. Or, in supercar terms, just a touch more than two Bugatti Veyrons.
