2021 Audi E-Tron GT teased, February 9 debut confirmed

Audi's Porsche Taycan-based electric vehicle confirmed for February reveal.

The 2021 Audi E-Tron GT has been teased overnight, with the German brand confirming the new electric vehicle (EV) will debut in full on 9 February 2021.

Confirming the unveiling date was an interview with head of Audi design Marc Lichte (bottom), discussing the E-Tron GT's concept-inspired, coupe-like styling.

"The E-Tron GT is a gran turismo. This term originally stood for sports cars that were suited for long-distance races. GT models thus differ from pure sports cars in that they offer greater comfort and a larger interior", said Lichte.

"As a fully electric gran turismo, the E-Tron GT reinterprets this balancing act by not reducing performance to the sheer output but by attributing a special creative importance to efficiency as well."

"Lower air resistance translates into greater range: We have turned this basic law of physics of electric mobility into the design principle for the E-Tron GT. Form follows function, aesthetics arise from efficiency. The new design language creates a stronger flow and thereby creates refined aerodynamics. The design of the E-Tron GT thus forms the basis for the design of future electric models", he continued.

Set to be unveiled in full on February 9 (European time), the Audi E-Tron GT will be the brand's second all-electric model, following the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback SUV siblings launched in Australia towards the end of 2020.

Based on the J1 platform shared with the Porsche Taycan, the E-Tron GT will offer the option of a flagship RS variant, employing two electric motors and a 93.4kWh lithium-ion battery good for 475kW of power, 830Nm of torque and a sub-3.5-second 0-100km/h sprint time.
