2021 Honda HR-V teased ahead of February 18 debut

The 2021 Honda HR-V has been teased in Europe overnight, ahead of the next-generation Honda small SUV's global unveiling on 18 February 2021.

Five mist-covered teaser images released by the Japanese brand provide our first official glimpse at the new SUV's styling and interior, revealing it will retain its predecessor's 'hidden' rear door handles, plus the new model's available contrasting black roof and slim LED tail-lights.

An image of the car's infotainment system showcases a notably more contemporary dashboard layout compared to the current model, with a large infotainment screen offering wireless Apple CarPlay taking centre stage.

Spy photos published earlier in January 2021 provide a closer look at the new HR-V's styling, revealing its upright front end and sleeker, more coupe-like profile.

Alongside the teaser images, Honda has confirmed the new HR-V will be sold in Europe exclusively as a hybrid, as part of its goal to electrify its entire range by the end of 2022.

While details of the model's hybrid powertrain have yet to be confirmed, the mention of the system's dual electric motors indicates it will be a step up in performance over the related Jazz city car's single-motor system, which develops 80kW of power and 253Nm of torque.

Whether the fuel-sipping electrified driveline will make its way to Australia remains unclear, given the 158kW/315Nm 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain offered with the CR-V mid-size SUV in Europe has previously been ruled out for our market.

Only time will tell, with the 2021 Honda HR-V slated to be unveiled in full on 18 February 2021.
