Around the tracks: Footage of a young Elon Musk buying his first supercar

Plus, an air-borne Ram TRX and a cheeky message about speeding from NSW Police.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. This video of Elon Musk getting his first supercar

This clip is by no means new – it surfaces every few years, in fact – but that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

Watch as baby-faced Tesla CEO Elon Musk takes delivery of his first supercar back in 1999... and it's not electric.

In the old video, the dorky 20-something is extremely excited about his new McLaren F1 and even reflects on how far he's come since his time spent "sleeping on the office floor".

"Just three years ago I was showering at the Y [the YMCA] and sleeping on the office floor and now obviously I've got a million-dollar car and quite a few creature comforts," he says.

You can watch the full clip below:

2. NSW Police issuing a reminder to speeding drivers

Despite the heavy-duty nature of their work, the social media pages of police forces around Australia seem to be becoming increasingly jovial.

One particular example is the Facebook page of NSW Police, where serious updates are interspersed with a healthy dose of sarcasm.

As a prime example, take this tongue-in-cheek reminder to speeding drivers – a playful pie chart showing the various excuses people give for speeding:

What people say when they're caught speeding.

3. This video of a Ram 1500 TRX getting air borne

In this week's episode of 'please for the love of all things holy do not try this at home', the American owner of a new Dodge Ram 1500 TRX decided to see "how high it could jump before exploding".

Yes, you read that correctly.

In his latest video, YouTube user 'Street Speed 717' risks his own life by driving the supercharged 4x4 ute off a small hill and over a stream at great speed.

The stunt takes place at the 10:30 mark and is both engrossing and hard to watch.

4. This passive-aggressive Ram owner parking at a Tesla Supercharger

Few rivalries are as heated as the one between electric car devotees and diehard internal-combustion engine lovers.

And occasionally, things can turn nasty.

Like this Ram 1500 owner in the United States, who took up a spot at a Tesla Supercharger while bearing the bumper sticker: "I identify as a Prius."

Considering the Ram owner even went so far as to "plug" the Supercharger cord into their car, the whole thing feels needlessly snarky.

What do you reckon – petty ploy or playful prank?

5. These touching photos of CarAdvice's Justin Narayan collecting his GR Yaris with his son

We're not typically ones to give ourselves a shoutout, but in this instance – it felt very necessary.

Not only is Justin Narayan's article about taking delivery of his Toyota GR Yaris a great read (check it out here), it also features some of our favourite-ever photos to run on the site.

Taken by CA photographer Salvatore Aloisio, the images capture the sheer excitement of Justin's two-year-old son as they take a father-and-son trip to the dealer to collect the new hot hatch.

We encourage you to have a read and a scroll through the gallery – it's sure to leave a smile on your face.
