2021 Ford Ranger caught on camera in new spy photos – report

One of North America's biggest motoring websites has published what are believed to be the first spy photos of a 2021 Ford Ranger test mule.

Images published on the website Motor1.com show the Ranger dual-cab ute with LED headlights and tail-lights, together with a long exhaust pipe more akin to those seen on larger Ford F-Series pick-ups.

The vehicle is wearing a heavy camouflage, which would indicate it is still at least 6-12 months away from showrooms.

The 2021 Ford Ranger is due to be unveiled in the coming months before going into production in some countries by the end of this year.

Ford has remained tight-lipped about the 2021 Ford Ranger.

The Blue Oval is yet to confirm what engines will power the new Ranger line-up, however Drive understands there will be a choice of a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel, 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel, and 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 power.

There is also unconfirmed speculation that the new model could spawn a Ranger Raptor variant for the US, powered by a high-output turbo petrol V6. However, the Australian version of the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor could be powered by a 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6, due to Australian customers' preference for that fuel.

In the meantime, Ford is continuing to push the current-generation Ranger with drive-away deals and limited-edition models.

The Ford Ranger FX4 Max – which adopts the Ranger Raptor's off-road tyres and suspension, but has a 3500kg towing capacity – arrived into showrooms in December 2020, while the Ranger Wildtrak X will be available in the the first quarter of 2021.
