2022 Nio ET7 revealed for China with 1000km electric range

Chinese EV brand unveils electric sedan with Tesla-beating 1000km claimed range, 480kW dual-motor powertrain and sleek looks.

The 2022 Nio ET7 electric sedan has been unveiled in China.

Revealed during the Chinese electric vehicle start-up's Nio Day event, the ET7 will go on sale in China in the first quarter of 2022 with a choice of three electric powertrain options, priced from as little as 448,000 yuan (AU$90,000), and offering as much as 1000 kilometres of range.

Both 70kWh and 100kWh lithium-ion battery options were showcased at the launch, offering driving range figures on the more lenient NEDC cycle of over 500km and around 700km respectively.

A 150kWh lithium-ion battery will sit atop the line-up, delivering an impressive 1000km of range – nearly 300km more than its closest rival, the 722km NEDC-rated Tesla Model S.

The Chinese brand's battery swapping system is also on offer.

All variants of the ET7 feature two electric motors – one on each axle, developing 180kW up front and 300kW at the rear – producing a total of 480kW of power and 850Nm of torque.

Nio claims a 3.9-second sprint from zero to 100km/h, with the flagship sedan capable of stopping from the same speed to a standstill in 33.5 metres. A drag coefficient of 0.23Cd is also claimed.

Dimensionally, the ET7 measures in at 5098mm long, 1987mm wide and 1505mm high, all riding on a 3060mm wheelbase underpinned by a high-strength steel and aluminium structure designed to meet Chinese and Euro NCAP five-star safety standards, the platform offering 37,100 Nm/degree of torsional rigidity.

Adaptive air suspension is standard-fit.

The ET7 will be the first Nio model to feature the brand's autonomous driving technology, comprising more than 33 sensors include eleven 8.0-megapixel cameras, long-range LiDAR sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a quartet of Nvidia-designed processors reportedly offering seven times more processing power than those used by rival Tesla.

Visually, the ET7 shares an assortment of design cues with Nio's existing SUV models, including its sleek front fascia with slim, two-piece headlights, flush 'pop-out' door handles and full-width rear light bar.

Inside, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with an AI-based personal assistant dominates the dashboard, which is joined by a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, Karuun-branded sustainable trim inlays, frameless soft-close doors, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and a 23-speaker, 1000-watt sound system.

The 2022 Nio ET7 will go on sale in China in the first quarter of 2022, priced from 448,000 yuan (AU$90,000) with a 70kWh battery, 506,000 yuan (AU$101,000) with the larger 100kWh pack, and 526,000 yuan (AU$105,000) for the 100kWh ET7 'Premier Edition'.

Customers can opt to rent the car's battery for a monthly subscription fee, rather than purchase it outright, lowering the base price to as little as 378,000 yuan (AU$76,000) plus an additional 980 yuan/month (AU$200) for the entry-level 70kWh variant.

As with all Nio models, the ET7 won't reach Australian shores.
