2021 Volkswagen Polo facelift spied with minimal camouflage – UPDATE: Rendered!

Facelifted light car spotted testing on European roads, hiding new lights and fascias with mild camouflage.

UPDATE, 17 January 2021: Following new spy images that emerged last week, Russian website Kolesa has created a set of renderings previewing what the (fully) un-camouflaged Volkswagen Polo facelift will look like.

Up front, a pair of Golf-inspired headlights sit above a revised lower fascia, while at the rear reshaped tail-lights and a restyled 'diffuser' headline the (albeit minor) changes.

Our original story covering a camouflaged car continues below. Click on any of the images in this story to view both renderings, along with the pair of spy pics.

11 January 2021: The facelifted 2021 Volkswagen Polo has been spied in Europe ahead of its expected full unveiling later this year.

A pair of grainy images posted to Spanish spy forum Cochespias reveal the light Volkswagen hatch will receive a styling update in line with the design language laid out by the latest Golf small car, headlined by an updated front end with Golf-inspired headlights.

They're connected by a full-width trim piece which, if the Polo's larger sibling is any guide, should illuminate as a LED daytime-running light on higher-grade models equipped with LED headlights.

At the rear, the updated city car gains restyled tail-lights with new LED lighting signatures and a reshaped profile that extends into the tailgate, similar in style to those fitted to Volkswagen's latest ID.3 electric hatch.

A revised lower rear valence also features, as does what appears to be a lightly restyled lower front fascia.

While no photos of the updated Polo's interior have been snapped, it's expected a development of the current car's cabin will feature, indicating the presence of an 8.0-inch touchscreen updated to run Volkswagen's latest infotainment system, plus an optional 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, the addition of touch-based climate controls (rather than physical push-buttons) and a redesigned steering wheel.

Changes to the Polo's range of powertrains for the facelifted model are unlikely, with 70kW/175Nm and 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinders and the 147kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder GTI expected to carry over in Australia.

Given the minimal amounts of camouflage worn by the silver prototype, the 2021 Volkswagen Polo facelift is expected to be unveiled later this year, ahead of an Australian launch likely due sometime in 2022.
