2021 Mini Hatch facelift spied inside, debut expected January 24

The interior of the facelifted 2021 Mini Hatch has been caught with little disguise, ahead of its rumoured unveiling later this month.

Images posted to German fan forum Mini-F56-Forum.de show the updated Mini will gain an assortment of minor revisions inside the cabin, comprising a new steering wheel, new interior trim inlays and capacitive-touch buttons for the steering wheel and infotainment system controls (replacing physical, push-button switches).

Changes are expected to be more substantial on the outside, with spy photos of an undisguised, facelifted Cooper S published in September 2020 revealing a restyled front fascia with a larger front grille, reshaped air intakes and the deletion of lower fog lights.

Accompanying the interior images, some reports suggest the updated Mini will make its public debut on 24 January 2021, offering a range of updates including three new exterior colours, new wheel designs for standard and John Cooper Works models, a single rear fog light (down from two), and the option of a 'gradient' contrasting roof and a black finish for the exhaust tips.

Tinted LED headlights and tail-lights borrowed from the JCW GP hot hatch will feature, alongside the aforementioned new heated steering wheel, new interior trim inlays, a black infotainment system surround and a revised lane-keep assist system that vibrates the steering wheel when the vehicle strays from its lane.

It's understood no changes will be made to the Mini Hatch's range of powertrains, meaning 100kW/220Nm Cooper, 141kW/280Nm Cooper S and 170kW/320Nm JCW turbocharged petrol options in Australia, alongside the recently-introduced 135kW/270Nm all-electric Cooper SE variant.
