I love it when a plan comes together – Original A-Team van up for auction

I'm not sure about you, but if I wanted to hide somewhere in the LA underground, I wouldn't drive a black and grey 1979 GMC Vandura with a giant red stripe on the side, and a spoiler on the roof.

But from 1983 to 1987, Hannibal, Face, Murdock and B.A. did just that on the NBC television series, The A-Team, and now you can relive your favourite adventures by bidding on one of six official 'A-Team' vans used to promote the series.

The original van was designed by legendary customiser, George Barris, who was also responsible for the 1960s TV Batmobile and KITT from Knight Rider.

The 1979 Chevrolet (GMC) G-Series van features the signature two-tone paint and stripe, with roof spoiler, front air dam, 15-inch American Racing turbine wheels, bull-bar and accessory lighting.

Inside, each member of the A-Team receives their own captain's chair, and there is storage for prop weapons, including a 50-calibre machine gun in the rear. Subtle.

Under the stubby bonnet is a 5.7-litre V8 (350ci) with 157kW and 407Nm, turning the rear wheels through a three-speed column-shift automatic transmission. For the 1979 model year, the Vandura was offered with up to a 7.4-litre V8 with 190kW and 522Nm available, which would have been more to B.A's taste.

The van in the auction has covered an indicated 90,000 miles (145,000km), although a five-figure odometer is never a good measure of total age.

It is due to be auctioned at the Worldwide Auctioneers annual auction in Scottsdale Arizona on Saturday, January 23rd 2021, and is offered without reserve. Proceeds from the sale will go to the J. Kruse Education Center, an organization providing career pathway development to students and transitioning US service-veterans.

The A-Team GMC van still offers plenty of street presence, and despite being instantly recognisable should see you continue to evade authorities on the streets of LA as the preferred transportation choice for your gang of vigilante problem solvers, as B.A. himself always said, he 'aint getting on no plane...

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team."
