McLaren Sabre hypercar spied in testing

An upcoming McLaren hypercar – believed to be called the Sabre – has been filmed testing near the manufacturer’s production facility in Woking, England.

Posted to Reddit overnight, the video shows the low-slung coupe travelling slowly with surrounding traffic.

The sound of the high performance engine can be briefly heard, however there is too much background and road noise to definitively substantiate the specific powertrain configuration.

Regardless, earlier reports suggest the vehicle is driven by a hybrid variant of McLaren's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing somewhere in the realm of 845kW.

A spokesperson for the McLaren was approached by Drive for comment, however was unable to provide further details about the model.

Earlier this year spy shots emerged of what is believed to be the same car (shown above), at a dealership in California.

These were followed by leaked patent drawings, which gave the clearest insight yet into the vehicle’s extreme design and aggressive aerodynamic package (shown above).

According to one report, only 15 examples of the new model will be produced and the car could cost upwards of $6.1 million in Australia.

The vehicle is slated for official launch sometime in 2022.
