The updated mid-size SUV gets upgraded technology and styling – at a cost.

  • 2021 Audi Q5 price and specs revealed
  • Price rises between $1800 to $4500 depending on variant
  • Updated styling, more tech for mid-size SUV
  • Choice of two diesel, one petrol engine – for now

Full Australian pricing and specifications for the 2021 Audi Q5 have been announced, ahead of the facelifted model's showroom arrival in early 2021.

Unveiled in June 2020, the updated version of the German brand's mid-size SUV gains revised styling in line with Audi's latest models, world-first (optional) OLED tail-lights, upgraded interior technology and more efficient engines under the bonnet – all matched by $1800-$4500 price rises, depending on variant.

A performance-oriented SQ5 TDI variant will arrive in the second quarter of 2021, with a coupe-styled Sportback to touch down (with its own SQ5 Sportback TDI halo) in the second half of 2021.

Seven all-wheel-drive-only Q5 variants will be offered at launch: five permanent members of the range, and two 'Launch Edition' variants.

Opening the local line-up is the entry-level Q5 40 TDI Quattro, priced from $68,900 before on-road costs (up $2000).

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, matched with a 12-volt 'mild hybrid' system for outputs of 150kW of power and 400Nm of torque – up 10kW over the equivalent 2020 model.

The mill is shared with the recently-updated Audi A4 Allroad 40 TDI Quattro, sharing the wagon's twin-dosing SCR system, dual AdBlue injection and exhaust aftertreatment systems.

It sends drive to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission, enabling a 7.6-second 0-100km/h sprint time and a 222km/h top speed. Audi claims a combined fuel economy rating of 5.4L/100km, which delivers a theoretical maximum driving range of 1250km.

Standard equipment includes leather trim, electrically-adjustable front seats with four-way lumbar support, a 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, digital radio, multi-connection Bluetooth, tri-zone climate control and ambient LED cabin lighting.

It also features LED headlights and tail-lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, wireless phone charging, frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 40:20:40 folding rear seats, a front centre armrest, four USB ports and support for the myAudi smartphone app.

A wide array of active safety features are fitted as standard, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, exit warning system, off-road hill-descent control, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, tyre pressure monitoring and Audi pre-sense rear.

Sitting above the 40 TDI is the Q5 45 TFSI Quattro, priced from $69,600 before on-road costs (up $1787).

The 45 TFSI matches the entry-level 40 TDI on standard equipment, but swaps its turbo-diesel for a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder with 12-volt 'mild hybrid' assistance, developing 183kW and 370Nm.

A carry-over seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system enable a 6.3-second dash from zero to 100km/h.

Positioned above the pair of entry-level variants are the 40 TDI Quattro Sport and 45 TFSI Quattro Sport, priced from $74,900 (up $2300) and $76,600 plus on-road costs (up $2464) respectively.

Sport variants add 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated sports seats with driver memory functionality, a 360-degree camera and 10-speaker premium sound system.

The Sport models' also score an upgraded safety suite, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and traffic jam assist, intersection support for the autonomous emergency braking system, automatic parking and evasive steering assist.

Sitting atop the local Q5 range – until the performance-oriented SQ5 arrives in the second quarter of 2021 – is the Q5 50 TDI Quattro S Line, priced from $89,600 before on-road costs (up $4511).

A 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology headlines the upgrades, the six-pot mill sending 210kW and 620Nm to all wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Audi claims a 5.7-second dash to 100km/h from a standstill.

Additional features over lesser grades include a head-up display, a power steering column with memory and 'easy entry' functionality and the S Line styling package, which adds a black honeycomb front grille, unique front and rear bumpers with matte aluminium trim, illuminated sill plates with S badging, and a new rear diffuser with Selenite Silver accents.

At launch, buyers will also be able to opt for a limited-run Launch Edition grade, available with 40 TDI and 45 TFSI engines, priced from $78,300 and $80,800 before on-road costs for the diesel and petrol respectively.

Unique features over other variants include metallic paint, 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, black exterior accents, black roof rails, carbon-fibre-look mirror caps, privacy glass, black or grey leather seat trim, unique floor mats, contrast stitching for the seats and floor mats, illuminated sill plates and colour ambient cabin lighting.

12 exterior colours will be offered across the range, in addition to four interior colour schemes.

A range of optional packages will also be offered, including Assistance (available only on 'base' 40 TDI and 45 TFSI variants), Comfort, and Technik packages, the lattermost offered with all variants bar the aforementioned entry-level pair.

OLED tail-lights can be had as a cost option.

A three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty is standard across the range, as is the option of a five-year servicing package, priced at $2720 for petrol models or $3160 for diesel variants.

The 2021 Audi Q5 will arrive in Australian showrooms in early 2021, with all Australian-delivered models sourced from the brand's renewably-powered factory in Mexico.
