2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter recalled with potential brake hose fault

The outer layer of the brake hoses at the front and rear axles may have been damaged during the production process, according to the manufacturer.

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall on 127 examples of its Sprinter van, citing a potential fault with the brake hose.

The affected vans were sold between the 6 April 2020 and 30 October 2020 (Model Year 2020).

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “the outer layer of the brake hoses at the front and rear axles may have been damaged during the production process”.

“Affected brake hoses may leak brake fluid,” the notice continues.

“This will reduce the vehicle's braking power and directional stability, increasing the risk of an accident that could cause injury or death of the vehicle occupants or other road users.”

CarAdvice has contacted Mercedes-Benz Australia to determine whether there have been any recorded malfunctions in Australia. This story will be updated with its response.

The manufacturer is currently in the process of contacting affected owners, however a full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 127 vans involved in the recall can be found here.
