2021 Ford new cars – what’s coming over the next year?
The year 2020 marked the arrival of two fresh models for Ford – first, the overhauled Escape medium SUV in late 2020, followed closely by the all-new, European-made Puma compact SUV.
The former only made up nearly 3 per cent of the brand's sales in 2020, outdone by Ford's more popular large, ute-based SUV, the Everest.
Of course, Ford's Ranger dual-cab ute continued to be its top seller, with news the relatively new Wildtrak X variant will continue into 2021 with a host of aesthetic updates for the new model-year.
We also saw the Fiesta nameplate return in the form of the gutsy Fiesta ST hot hatch – sold as a single, turbocharged, manual variant in Australia – which appealed to a small but passionate buyer base, attracting 183 customers in its first (albeit not full) year on sale (as of November 2020).
Heading into 2021, all eyes are on the incoming halo Mustang variant, the Mach 1, which is expected to land Down Under in limited numbers in the first half of the year.
And despite not having any local confirmation, we remain hopeful Australia might eventually see Ford's first all-electric model, the Mach-E sports SUV, in 2022 – if not 2021. Your move, Ford (we'll accept the Ford E-Transit van).
