2015-17 Volvo V40, V40 Cross Country recalled over cooling fault
Volvo Car Australia has recalled 958 examples of its V40 and V40 Cross Country.
The recall notice, filed with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), applies to (Model Year) MY2015-2017 examples of the V40 hatch and V40 Cross Country fitted with four-cylinder 'Drive-E' turbo-diesel engines.
According to the notice, should the engine's cooling system be refilled, "air may become trapped in the cooling system which might result in insufficient cooling of the engine components".
"Insufficient cooling may result in damages to engine components and may cause a fire in the engine bay. A fire in the engine bay increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to the vehicle occupants and other road users."
The December 14 recall expands upon a similar recall issued in August 2020, which saw just 358 examples of the 2014-17 S60, V60, XC60, V40 and V40 Cross Country fitted with the same four-cylinder diesel engines recalled for an identical fault with the cooling system.
Affected vehicles were sold between 1 August 2014 and 1 December 2018. A full list of all 958 affected VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers) can be found here.
Volvo Car Australia will contact affected owners "in writing" to urge them to make an appointment with their nearest Volvo dealer to have their vehicle repaired.
