Trio of Aston Martin executives set to revive Bizzarrini – UPDATE: Brand’s first model confirmed

Exclusive Italian sports car company will stage its comeback, thanks to former Aston Martin execs.

UPDATE, 27 January 2021: The recently-rebooted Bizzarrini group has announced it will hand-build 24 examples of the classic 5300 GT sports car.

The low-slung two-seater was the historic Italian marque’s most influential creation, with 133 examples produced between 1964 and 1968.

Powered by a 5.4-litre (327 cubic-inch) Chevrolet V8 engine, drive was sent to the road via a four-speed manual transmission.

Bizzarrini claims the reborn vehicle will be aesthetically and mechanically faithful to the original, however it appears set to use modern lightweight materials to improve performance – whereas the original 5300 GT weighed 1200kg, the new car reportedly tips the scales in at just 975kg.

Power output is expected to be somewhere between 294kW and 352kW, depending on the variant.

Pricing is yet to be announced for the new model, however in 2017 an original example of the 5300 GT was reportedly sold for £600,000 (AU$942,000).

12 December 2020: London-based luxury car retailer Pegasus Brands is planning to revive Italian sports car marque Bizzarrini.

Bizzarrini was founded in 1964 in Livorno, Italy, by ex-Ferrari development boss, Giotto Bizzarrini. The brand ceased operations in 1969.

Over a short five-year life span, the brand manufactured approximately 140 cars. It also had success on track, with an entry at the 1965 Sebring 12 hour event winning it class.

To lead the new venture, Pegasus brands has hired a trio of ex-Aston Martin executives.

At the helm sits ex-Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez, as Bizzarrini's new chairman. Prior to Aston Martin, Bez held senior development and engineering roles at Porsche and BMW.

Taking the role of CEO at Bizzarrini is former Aston Martin North America boss, Christopher Sheppard.

Janette Green, Aston Martin's previous director of communications and later chief of staff, will head up the brand's marketing efforts.

Pegasus brands has not made Bizzarrini's product plan public, nor if Giotto Bizzarrini, now aged in his 90s, is in any way involved in the reboot.

It has only said that it will reintroduce the brand “while also engaging with a new generation of collectors and enthusiasts."

Pegasus brands sells Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce and Koeniggsegg vehicles in London, Geneva, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
