2021 Mini Countryman Boardwalk revealed, Australian arrival on the cards

Special-edition maxi Mini gains dark blue exterior paint, black accents and additional standard equipment.

The 2021 Mini Countryman Boardwalk special edition has been unveiled – however, an Australian launch remains officially unconfirmed.

Limited to just 325 examples in the UK, the Countryman Boardwalk can be differentiated from the Cooper or Cooper S variants on which it's based primarily by its Deep Laguna Blue Metallic paint, initially developed for the Mini Convertible Sidewalk special edition unveiled earlier this year.

The dark blue exterior hue is contrasted by a black finish for the roof, mirror caps and roof rails, 19-inch alloy wheels and gloss black exterior trim, with an electric tailgate and LED head- and tail-lights fitted as standard equipment.

Boardwalk striped badging adorns the Mini's front quarter-panel trim, sill plates, dashboard and roof.

Inside, the European-spec Countryman Boardwalk includes a number of optional packages as standard equipment, containing features such as an 8.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, satellite navigation and connected car services, Mini Yours full leather trim, ambient LED cabin lighting and puddle light projection

There's also a 5.0-inch digital instrument display, front and rear parking cameras, automatic headlights, cruise control with braking functionality, automatic climate control, heated seats and parking sensors.

Countryman Boardwalk buyers in Europe can choose between two engine choices: the 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder Cooper, or the 131kW/280Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder Cooper S – the latter power figure down 10kW over Australian Countryman Cooper S models.

Both models, in standard front-wheel-drive form, offer a choice of six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. The Cooper S can also be had with front-biased, 'All4' all-wheel-drive, which loses the manual option and swaps the dual-clutch gearbox for a standard-fit eight-speed torque-converter auto.

The 2021 Mini Countryman Boardwalk will go on sale in the UK in January 2021.

While Mini's Australian arm has yet to confirm the Boardwalk for our market, CarAdvice understands the model is under consideration for Australia, with further details to follow in the new year.
