2022 Jaguar I-Pace update leaked in patent filings

Patent filings for the updated 2022 Jaguar I-Pace have emerged, hinting at yet another update for the electric SUV.

After receiving a model-year-2021 update in June 2020 – focusing primarily on technology and charging updates, with styling changes being minimal – American publication Motor Trend has uncovered a set of international patent filings for a lightly-revised I-Pace, filed by Jaguar in January 2019, and officially approved on December 1, 2020.

While visual differences between the upcoming model – expected to arrive as a 2022 model year offering – and the current I-Pace are minor, a side-by-side comparison reveals a tweaked lower front bumper, featuring more angular trim blades, wider LED daytime-running lights and a slightly slimmer central grille.

Changes are more significant at the rear, consisting of a reshaped lower bumper with a pair of four-sided, likely faux vents in place of the current car's reflectors, surrounded by metallic trim.

A set of revised LED tail-lights also appear to complement the roster of changes, with a more pronounced central signature.

While the patent doesn't showcase the updated I-Pace's interior, we'd wager changes will be few and far between, given the electric SUV gained Jaguar's latest Pivi Pro infotainment system with the update in June, alongside wireless smartphone charging, four-zone climate control, a 3D surround-view camera, multi-connection Bluetooth and more.

Expect the MY22 I-Pace's powertrain options to be carried over from the current MY21 model, meaning dual electric motors and a 90kWh battery producing 294 all-wheel-drive kilowatts and 696Nm of torque.

The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace update should make its official debut sometime in 2021, though a date has yet to be officially confirmed, nor have any prototypes been spied testing on public roads.
