2020 Ford Transit and Transit Custom recalled for suspension arm fault

Ford Australia has issued a recall for 15 examples of the Transit, and a further 165 examples of the Ford Transit Custom, citing a potential fault with the front lower control arms.

The 180 affected vans were built between June 5 and July 8, 2020 (model year 2020).

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “the vehicles may be fitted with front lower control arms that contain incomplete welds, which may lead to fracture of the component.”

“A fractured lower control arm could result in front lower control arm joint separation, resulting in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of an accident that could result in injury or death of vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

CarAdvice has contacted Ford Australia to determine whether there have been any recorded malfunctions in Australia. This story will be updated with its response.

A similar recall was conducted earlier in the year, citing a potential fault with the control arms. At that time, 344 vehicles were involved.

The manufacturer is currently in the process of contacting affected owners, however a full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 180 vehicles involved in the recall can be found attached to the recall notice.
