2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E: GT Performance Edition detailed

While the Performance Edition was announced at the Mustang Mach-E's global unveiling in November 2019, few mechanical details were released at the time, nor were the specific performance upgrades over the 'standard' GT detailed.

Powering the top-spec GT Performance Edition is the same 98.8kWh (gross) lithium-ion battery pack and dual electric motor configuration as the 'regular' GT, though revised electric motors "drawing more power from [the] battery pack" up outputs from the GT's 358kW/830Nm to a punchier 358kW/860Nm.

The Performance Edition's additional torque helps cut the 0-60mph (97km/h) sprint time from 3.8 to 3.5 seconds – matching its closest rival – the Tesla Model Y Performance.

Ford claims a targeted EPA range of 378km, down compared to the standard GT's 402km estimate.

Complementing the Performance Edition's uprated motors are upgrades to its suspension and braking package.

Filling the arches are 20-inch machined, black-accented alloy wheels, wrapped in 245/45R20 Pirelli performance tyres – they hide large performance brakes clamped by red-painted Brembo calipers.

MagneRide magnetically-controlled adaptive dampers are fitted as standard.

Differentiating the Performance Edition from its 'regular' counterparts are a range of changes inside and out, headlined by Ford Performance-branded front sports seats trimmed in 'Performance Grey ActiveX' trim with contrast stitching and perforated suede inserts.

Other upgrades include aluminium trim for the instrument cluster, a Carbonised Grey front grille and a 'Performance Edition GT' badge on the rear tailgate.

A range of exterior colours are on offer, including Cyber Orange (pictured), Dark Matter Gray, Rapid Red, Star White, Grabber Blue, Shadow Black (the only non-metallic option), Iconic Silver and Space White.

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will go on sale in the US alongside its GT sibling late in the northern summer of 2021 (likely July or August). Order books will open in the northern spring.

Given Ford's local arm has repeatedly confirmed there are no plans to bring the wider Mustang Mach-E range Down Under, it's highly unlikely the GT Performance Edition will ever reach Australian shores.
