2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake imagined
Genesis isn't ready to confirm that its spied G70 wagon prototype is destined for production, but we all know it's coming – and this is how it could look.
It's all-but-confirmed Genesis is working on a svelte long-roof version of its G70 mid-size sedan.
While its existence has yet to be confirmed officially by the Korean luxury brand, the G70 wagon – or 'Shooting Brake', as it's rumoured to be badged – has been spied testing in production guise on European roads and racetracks in recent months, clad in heavy camouflage.
But what hides beneath the prototypes' camo? We tasked CarAdvice's resident Photoshop wizard Theophilus Chin with finding out.
From the B-pillar forward, the Shooting Brake is largely identical to its sedan relative, featuring the same restyled front end with large 'crest' grille and twin-stripe headlights debuted with the facelifted G70 four-door earlier this year.
It's toward the rear where the changes are concentrated, with the sedan's boot replaced by a longer roofline leading into a subtle roof spoiler.
The rendering's windowline tracks similarly to that of last week's spy shots, complemented by a sloping C-pillar which splits the side windows and wrap-around rear tailgate glass.
The twin-stripe LED tail-lights now continue from the rear quarterpanel into the wagon's tailgate, where they're joined by 'GENESIS' badging and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets shared with the G70 sedan.
While a date has yet to be locked in – nor has the wagon been confirmed for production in the first place – it's expected the G70 Shooting Brake will make its official debut in mid-2021, with a likely Australian market launch by the end of the year, or early 2022.
A Genesis spokesperson told CarAdvice last week: "Whilst we can confirm that a G70 Shooting Brake concept is being evaluated, no decision has been made yet as to whether it will go into production."
"Given G70 is already produced in right-hand drive, a ‘Shooting Brake’ variant would be viable and a great addition to the G70 range in Australia, if it were to make it into production," they added.
It's expected Genesis' BMW 3 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon and Audi A4 Avant rival will share its powertrain range with the related sedan, meaning a choice of 185kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engines, paired to eight-speed automatics.
The G70 sedan's interior features are also expected to carry over to the Shooting Brake, including a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and large digital instrument cluster, along with its wide active safety suite.
Stay tuned to CarAdvice for more details – both official and unofficial – of the 2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake in the coming months.
