Top Five: Motorsports shows you can stream right now

It's been an usual year for motorsports – like most things in 2020 – with many championships either cancelled or rushed through thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

With 2021 just on the horizon and most car-racing seasons winding down, we wanted to bring our readers' attention to a few shows we thought might be of interest, to help bridge the gap over the holiday period.

While some parts of Australia were struggling with strict lockdowns, Queensland was able to get on top of the problem early, allowing the Targa Great Barrier Reef tarmac rally to proceed, almost as planned.

A television show, aptly named Targa Great Barrier Reef 2020, covers the event from start to finish, highlighting the incredibly diverse field of vehicles, the spectacular scenery, and, perhaps most importantly, the wonderful community of people who are involved.

Subaru Motorsports USA has announced its eighth season of Launch Control, a behind-the-scenes documentary which follows the team's progress in Rally America and rallycross championships.

If you want to get the experience of being involved in a top-tier rally team, but without the fatigue and constant mud under the fingernails, Launch Control gives a great insight into the world of rallying.

Launch Control will begin streaming in December on the team's YouTube channel.

It's been a quarter of a century since the late Colin McRae won his sole rally championship title in the Subaru Impreza WRX – a newcomer to the rally scene at the time, and a car that would become synonymous with rallying.

McRae is also one of the most beloved rally drivers in the sport's history, in part due to his entertaining, maximum-attack driving style, which helped introduce a whole new generation to rallying.

The documentary can be streamed on WRC+ with a month-long subscription of less than $15.

The line between traditional media and YouTube gets fuzzier with each passing year, and a new show has just been launched on the internet platform which is on the same level of quality you'd expect from the Discovery Channel.

While not a traditional kind of motorsports, Sorted takes a handful of highly-modified street cars from the East Coast and West Coast of the US, and pits them against each other in a number of different categories. Hosted by Matt Farah, Rob Ferretti, Emelia Hartford, and professional racing driver Tanner Foust.

Any diehard F1 fans have probably watched the first two seasons already, but Drive to Survive is a great look behind the curtain at the world of Formula One for those who are curious about what many believe to be the highest tier of motorsport.

Formula One is a huge industry unto itself, with money, celebrity, and politics on a scale unlike any other. Each episode follows a team and gets an inside look at how everything operates.
