2021 Audi Q7 gains V6 petrol in Australia, A4 Allroad and TT score power increases

Audi has announced an array of engine changes to its Australian Q7, TT and A4 Allroad models.

The changes include a new petrol engine for the Q7 SUV, as well as power bumps for the TT coupe and A4 Allroad. A new gearbox also accompanies the performance increase on the sporty TT coupe.

Buyers are able to get the updated Audi TT in showrooms now, while the updated Q7 and A4 Allroad will be arriving in early 2021. See below for all the details.

Headlining the changes is the addition of a petrol engine for the four-ring brand's Q7 large SUV.

Since its local launch in 2015 – and mid-life facelift in 2020 – Audi's flagship seven-seater has been V6 diesel only, with performance SQ7 models solely offering a twin-turbo V8 diesel engine.

However, the brand's local arm has announced the petrol-powered 55 TFSI S Line for the new year, due to arrive in showrooms in the first quarter of 2021.

Priced from $121,300 before on-road costs, the petrol retails for $1400 more than the existing, non-performance flagship Q7, the diesel-fuelled 50 TDI S Line.

Powering the 55 TFSI is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6, sending 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque to all wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Audi claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds.

While specifications and standard equipment for the 55 TFSI S Line have yet to be announced, it will likely mirror that of the 50 TDI S Line, meaning dual 10.1-inch and 8.6-inch touchscreens, 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, and more.

2021 Audi TT 45 TFSI Quattro

The 'entry-level' version of Audi's svelte TT coupe, the 45 TFSI, has received a performance boost for 2021.

Whereas the current model's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine develops 169kW of power and 350Nm of torque, the 2021 45 TFSI sees outputs rise to 180kW and 370Nm – matching the mechanically-related Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch.

The 45 TFSI's dual-clutch automatic transmission has seen an upgrade from six to seven speeds which, combined with the extra power and a carry-over all-wheel-drive system, is meant to cut the 0-100km/h sprint time by one-tenth to 5.2 seconds.

The 180kW/370Nm 2021 Audi TT 45 TFSI Quattro is now on sale, priced from $80,900 before on-road costs (up $1611).

2021 Audi A4 Allroad 40 TDI Quattro

Despite landing on Australian shores a little over three months ago, the entry-level version of Audi's high-riding A4 Allroad wagon has received improvements in both performance and efficiency.

The A4 Allroad 40 TDI's newly-revised 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine has gained an additional 10kW for 2021, bringing total power and torque outputs of 150kW and 400Nm respectively.

The turbo-diesel has also gained a number of additions and tweaks to improve economy and efficiency, including a 12-volt 'mild-hybrid' system, new exhaust 'aftertreatment' system and twin-dosing technology with dual AdBlue injection – Audi claims these changes reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions by "more than 90 per cent".

Fuel consumption has been cut from 5.2 to 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres which, according to Audi, makes the 'base' A4 Allroad one of the most frugal wagons on sale Down Under.

The improved 2021 Audi A4 Allroad 40 TDI quattro will go on sale in Australia in early 2021, priced from $70,700 plus on-road costs (up $800).
