Renault Kiger concept shown for India

Renault unveils another new SUV for the growing Indian market.

Another new compact SUV is on its way to the Indian market, previewed today by the Renault Kiger concept.

Measuring "less than four metres" in length, the Kiger will take on other new models like the Kia Sonet and the Nissan Magnite – the latter, of course, being a Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance stablemate.

In India, the Kiber will be sold alongside other Renault SUVs the Kwid, Duster (badged as a Dacia in other markets) and the Triber.

The Kiger pushes Renault's styling themes ahead in the Indian market, and might also preview plans for wider global design evolution.

Described as having a "devastating" look, the Kiger features familiar Renault styling – but with slender daytime running lights now sitting where headlights normally would, above a set of driving lights set lower in the bumper.

The concept rides on 19-inch wheels, but with the Indian market not exactly overwhelmed by world-class road surfaces, the production model will likely roll on much smaller stock.

Little else has been revealed above the Kiger, but buyers can likely expect the Kiger to share the Triber's 67kW/96Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine.

Renault intends to export the Kiger from India as well as sell it on the sub-continent, but it's unlikely to be offered in Australia.

Watch for a production version of the Kiger to appear in the year ahead.

Although it was due here in mid-2020 initially, COVID-related delays have pushed the new Captur's debut out to early 2021.
