2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class limousine revealed

The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been officially revealed, with the first Australian deliveries slated to arrive in the fourth quarter of next year.

As expected, the 5469mm flagship luxury limousine is offered with a significant range of safety and tech features, including 18 airbags and Level 3 autonomy via the Drive Pilot system.

The powertrain is yet to be confirmed, however CarAdvice understands a version of the existing 463kW/1000Nm 6.0-litre V12 will likely be continued.

Drive will be sent to all four wheels via a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission with an integrated starter-generator motor, capable of providing a 15kW boost when needed.

The interior is similar to that of the recently revealed Mercedes-Benz S-Class – a 12.8-inch OLED central display is fitted as standard, and a maximum of five screens can be optioned.

The wheelbase is 180mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class, with the supplementary length being used to expand the rear cabin.

When fully kitted out – and fitted with the Seat Comfort and Chauffeur packages – this cabin features a calf-massaging system, neck and shoulder heating, adaptive lighting, refrigeration compartment with silver-plated champagne flutes, automatic seat belt extenders, and the MBUX Interior Assistant.

Rear-axle steering can be optioned with either 4.5 degree or 10 degree turning capability, bringing the standard 13.4 metre turning circle down to 12.4 and 11.4 metres respectively.

Meanwhile, the optional fully active E-Active Body Control air suspension system uses a stereo camera to scan the road ahead and smooth out undulations.

A bespoke two-tone paint finish is also on offer, as is the Digital Light headlamp LED technology which permits the projection of warning symbols and guidelines onto the road ahead.

No pricing details have been announced for the Australian market, however the current generation variant starts at $445,235 plus on road costs.

Since 2018 just 19 new examples of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class have been sold locally.
