2022 Infiniti QX55 revealed for overseas markets

Infiniti is exiting Australia, but overseas markets will soon get this sleek new luxury SUV.

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 has been unveiled overseas, with the SUV coupe set to go on sale in North America in the third quarter of 2021.

Infiniti's new QX55 is like a coupe variant of the Infiniti QX50, but gains a number of unique styling elements, such as a more aggressive front-end and a more modern rear.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre petrol turbo four-cylinder engine, using variable-compression technology to put out 200kW and 380Nm, sent through a CVT automatic to all four wheels.

Inside, occupants are greeted with a pair of touchscreens in the centre dash – the 9.0-inch upper display looks after infotainment, and the 7.0-inch lower display controls satellite navigation and other vehicle settings.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but only the former is available with a wireless connection.

It's been a long time coming for the new model, with Infiniti first teasing the QX55 over a year ago.

While the QX55 is positioned as a sportier version of the QX50, they both share Nissan/Infiniti's FM platform underneath – the same architecture used by the Nissan 370Z, and thought to underpin the forthcoming Nissan 400Z (revealed as the Z Proto) – meaning the QX55 should display decent on-road dynamics.

Australia won't be seeing the QX55 locally though, as Infiniti has all but left the country. The company sold no new cars last month, despite dealerships offering discounts to clear remaining 2019 stock.
