November 13: The next-generation 2021 Honda Civic sedan has been previewed today, ahead of its full unveiling – albeit in pre-production prototype form – on November 18.
The 15-second teaser released by the Japanese carmaker reveals elements of the 11th-generation Civic sedan's styling, including its L-shaped LED tail-lights, LED headlights, dual exhaust tips and unique C-pillar trim design, but leaves much of the car's exterior yet to be showcased.
While the teaser may not be all that revealing, patent filings from September unveiled the new Civic's design – in both sedan and yet-to-be-teased hatch forms – in full, showing it will trade the bold yet controversial styling of the outgoing 10th-generation model for a more reserved, conservative look that's likely to appeal to those divided by the current car.
Images of the interior have yet to be released, though it will likely draw inspiration from recent Honda models such as the new Accord, potentially borrowing its 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and semi-digital instrument cluster.
The range of powertrains set to rest under the new Civic's bonnet remain equally unclear. For reference, Australian-delivered, non-performance versions of the current Civic offer a choice of two petrol powertrains, depending on variant: a 104kW/174Nm 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder, and a 127kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder.
The high-performance Type R hatch is set to return for the Civic's 11th generation, and has been spied testing on European roads in recent months.
