Gordon Murray Automotive to invest $66 million in new global headquarters

The company, founded by legendary Formula One and McLaren designer Gordon Murray, will begin production of its $4.4 million T.50 hypercar in January, 2022.

Gordon Murray Automotive – currently in the process of producing one of the world's most spectacular hypercars – is set to invest $66 million in a new global headquarters.

Located in Windlesham, UK, the site will span 12,077 square metres and comprise three separate buildings housing automotive design, engineering, research and development, sales, marketing, and a heritage centre.

The new headquarters is slated for completion in 2024, at which time the existing offices in Dunsfold Park, near the Top Gear test track, will be converted into a manufacturing facility.

Founded by and named after legendary Formula One and designer Gordon Murray, who is now 74, the GMA company is gearing up to begin production on its much-anticipated T.50 hypercar.

Considered the “spiritual successor” to the iconic 1992 McLaren F1 – which was also designed by Murray – the T.50 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.9-litre V12 producing 488kW and redlining at 12,100rpm.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through an old-school six-speed manual gearbox.

Just like the McLaren F1, the driver sits in the middle of the car, with room for one passenger on either side.

The lightweight carbon fibre tub for the T.50 was recently shown off for the first time, tipping the scales at just 99kg. The total weight of the car is 986kg.

None of this comes cheap however, and the T.50 will cost £2.36 million (approximately AU$4.4 million) in the UK before options and on-road costs are applied.

Gordon Murray Automotive will start building the first customer examples in January, 2022.
