Audi A1, A3, and TT recalled due to gearbox fault

A pressure accumulator in the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox of three model types could crack, according to the manufacturer.

Audi Australia has issued a recall on a total of 2783 cars – across three model types – citing a fault with its 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.

The affected models are the A1, A3, and TT, with model years between 2011 and 2013.

Sales took place between February 2011, and September 2012.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “due to a production fault, over time a crack in the transmission’s pressure accumulator can occur.”

“If the pressure accumulator cracks, oil and pressure is lost in the hydraulic system of the gearbox,” it continues.

“As a result, the transmission of engine power via the gearbox is interrupted. The experience of this symptom would be comparable to depressing the clutch in a vehicle fitted with a manual transmission.”

The manufacturer says this potential fault could “increase the risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants or other road users. In the event of a serious accident this may result in death.”

CarAdvice has contact Audi Australia to check if it has reported any incidents locally. We will update this story with its response.
