Around the tracks: Aston Martin is designing houses now

Plus, a Porsche owned by Picasso's son, bad parking from a Jeep owner and genuinely cool toy cars.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. A Jeep Wrangler owner being shamed for a dodgy parking move

There's nothing quite as frustrating as witnessing some truly terrible parking and not being able to say or do anything about it.

But this YouTube user refused to look on in silence when a Jeep Wrangler driver in the US decided to not only cut in front of him to take a parking space, but claim two spots while he was at it.

The entire thing was caught on dash cam, including the moment the Jeep driver gets called out for his behaviour and sheepishly moves is car.

Warning: Some of the language in this video is NSFW.

2. Aston Martin is designing luxury NYC houses now

If you've ever gotten into the driver's seat of an Aston Martin and thought "I would like to live here", consider your wish granted.

The British marque is lending its cultivated design prowess to five one-of-a-kind luxury homes in New York City.

The project, known only as 130 William, is a collaboration between the esteemed automotive brand, architect Sir David Adjaye and real estate company Lightstone.

At this stage, the building is only in the renders phase, but Aston Martin will be responsible for designing five apartments on the 59th and 60th floor of the new Manhattan real estate development.

Each home will come fully furnished and be priced from USD$3,985,000 or up to USD$11,500,000 for a penthouse.

The best part? According to Aston Martin: "Each home will be accompanied by a Special Edition Aston Martin DBX custom-designed by Sir David Adjaye."

3. You can buy a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder once owned by Picasso's son

Got a spare few million dollars in the bank? Great news – you can own this ultra-rare 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder.

Formerly owned by Claude Picasso, son of famous painter Pablo Picasso, in the 1990s, this one is up for sale in Europe and is one of only 90 examples in existence.

Listed by auction house Auxietre & Schmidt, the price is available on request, but you can expect it to be a lofty one given this car has been meticulously restored and maintained throughout its lifetime.

Previous owners include the CEO of French macaron giant Laduree and famous French singer Florent Pagny.

The car is registered for the road in Germany and boasts a 1.5-litre air-cooled, all-alloy 'Four-Cam' engine, with a top speed approaching 210km/h.

You can see the full listing here.

4. These luxury toy cars for refined tastes

Any auto enthusiast will happily tell you toy cars aren't just for kids – but it can feel occasionally like you still have to justify the slightly more juvenile purchase to your loved ones.

Justify no more – Australian owned and based start-up Rocket & Klein are about to launch a line of grown-up toy cars that will look just as at home on a stylish coffee table as they do on a toy race track.

"The design style follows a relaxed mid-century modern aesthetic," the company said in a statement. "The inspiration behind the range comes from iconic show cars from the late 1940s, through to the 1980s."

The design process was overseen by a designer who previously worked at Holden and the cars, which are made from recycled materials, are due to go on sale in early 2021.

Watch this space for more.

5. This guy who takes his Porsche 996 C4S camping

If you're after a bit of escapism, follow this Instagram account, @996roadtrip, run by a Porsche 996 C4S owner who loves to take his car camping.

It's an unexpected sight – a sports car with a pop-up tent on the roof – but it certainly sparks a bit of lust for the great outdoors and the photos are stunning.
