Ssangyong Actyon Sports Ute gets 3-star ANCAP rating in latest test

The Ssangyong Actyon Sports Ute 4x2 Tradie has just been awarded three stars in the latest round of crash tests conducted by ANCAP.

The model tested was the Ssangyong Actyon Sports Ute made from 2008 onwards. It is equipped with dual front airbags, front seat belt pretensioners and some models have ABS brakes but it wasn't enough to provide ultimate occupant safety in the latest tests. ANCAP gave the ute 7.01 out of 16 in the frontal offset crash test.

A report on the ANCAP website says the car suffered excessive floor deformation and the foot well was subjected to heavy pedal intrusion. It also said protection from serious leg injury for the driver was 'poor' whilst chest protection was 'marginal'.

In spite of the Actyon receiving just three stars, the overall score was 24.49 which is said to be highest possible score for a three-star rating.

Current utes that have been rated five stars include the Ford Falcon Ute and the Holden Commodore VE Omega ute. The Toyota HiLux and Mitsubishi Triton have scored four stars in the past, models ranging from 2006-2007.
