2021 Renault Trafic updated, no announcement yet for Australia

The 2021 Renault Trafic has been updated in Europe, receiving styling changes and new tech – but the upgrades only apply to the people mover variant at this stage.

A spokesperson for Renault Australia has told Drive there are no changes to the local Trafic commercial van.

However, the facelifted Trafic people mover confirms images from an Australian patent application obtained by Drive in early October 2020, suggesting the local Trafic van is on track to receive the updates in the future.

As well as the exterior facelift, the interior of the Trafic people mover gains a heavily revised dashboard design, featuring a floating 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

Drivers benefit from a new gear shifter, instrument cluster, and steering wheel – including new multi-function steering wheel controls,. The previous curved design dash has been swapped out for a squarer, more formal treatment.

A suite of new safety tech accompanies the styling changes, with the Trafic receiving autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and a new airbag for the passenger seated in the central position of the front row.

While Europe gets a slight change to local powertrains, there have been no changes to the engines available in Australian Trafic vans.

The updated Renault Trafic will begin European deliveries in March 2021, but it could be late 2021 before the changes make their way to our shores.
