Battery Ram! Electric pick-up coming, says boss – report

A fully-electric version of the Ram 1500 pick-up is currently in development, it has been confirmed.

Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) boss, Mike Manley, made the announcement during a conference call discussing third-quarter earnings, according to American newspaper Detroit Free Press.

"I do see that there will be an electrified Ram pickup in the marketplace, and I would ask you just to stay tuned for a little while, and we’ll tell you exactly when that will be," Mr Manley said.

Fiat-Chrysler is the corporate owner of the Ram Trucks brand.

While the company has been coy about a battery-electric Ram pick-up, rival Ford has been spruiking its all-electric F-150, despite the vehicle not being expected until 2022.

Last month, the electric Ford F-150 was teased in a video from the Blue Oval, with the company claiming the pick-up was the most powerful model to ever be produced by the company.

The Ram is the latest electric pick-up to be announced, with models also expected from Tesla, Rivian, Lordstown, Bollinger, GWM, Nikola, Fisker, and locally-made ACE.

GMC revealed its all-new, all-electric Hummer last week, claiming performance figures in the same realm as traditional hypercars.
