2021 McLaren Elva shown off in Lando Norris test drive

The upcoming McLaren Elva Ultimate Series roadster will produce 599kW and 880Nm from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

The 2021 McLaren Elva – set to be the newest addition to the British-manufacturer’s Ultimate Series – has been test driven at Silverstone by 20-year-old F1 driver Lando Norris.

This represents the best look yet at the upcoming roadster in action.

Inspired by founder Bruce McLaren’s M1A, M1B and M1C race cars of the 1960’s, the the £1.4 million (AU$2.5 million) Elva is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 599kW and 880Nm.

It is the lightest street-legal car ever built by McLaren – at about 1200kg – and can reportedly accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just under three seconds.

According to Norris, zero to 200km/h takes just 6.7 seconds.

After initially announcing 399 Elva’s would be built, the Woking-based manufacturer now says it will produce just 149 examples – The COVID19 pandemic and a “customer desire for exclusivity” have been cited as reasons for the cut.

The first deliveries are expected to begin towards the end of 2020.
