2021 BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition First Edition models confirmed locally – UPDATE: Pricing, reservation details confirmed

UPDATE, December 15, 2020: BMW Australia has confirmed pricing details for the X5 M and X6 M Competition First Edition.

Prices are pegged at $264,900 drive-away for the X5 M Competition First Edition and $273,900 drive-away for the X6 M Competition First Edition.

That makes the special editions around $40,000 to $45,000 more expensive than their 'standard' counterparts, based on Sydney metro drive-away pricing for the regular X5 M and X6 M Competition.

Interested buyers can reserve one of the eight examples bound for Australia – four each of the X5, and four of the X6 – by placing a $5000 deposit through the online BMW Shop, with the customer's preferred dealer to finalise the purchase closer to the scheduled local arrival date in the first quarter of 2021.

October 20, 2020: The 2021 BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition First Edition performance SUVs have been announced, with just eight of the 250 build slots available for each model confirmed for the Australian market.

The special-edition models – announced by BMW overnight – offer a number of interior and exterior styling options for buyers who want something a little bit special on the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition.

On the outside, a choice of either Frozen Marina Bay Blue or BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver are available – the latter being offered exclusively for the First Edition.

BMW has announced the Frozen Marina Bay Blue exterior colour is also available to option across the entire X5 and X6 model range.

However, only offered on the First Edition package is a set of light alloy wheels finished in gloss black, coming in at 21-inch on the front and 22-inch at the rear.

Many of the exterior trims have been finished in carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). An M Carbon engine cover is included as part of the First Edition.

Inside the X5 M and X6 M Competition models optioned with the First Edition package get BMW Individual Merino full leather upholstery in an exclusive combination of Silverstone grey and Midnight Blue to match the exterior paint options.

There are also black Alcantara synthetic suede inserts on the seats with contrast stitching in Sakhir Orange, which extend to the doors and leather-trimmed dashboard. The headliner is finished in Midnight Blue Alcantara.

The cabin is finished with carbon-fibre (CFRP) trim, with individually-numbered 'First Edition 1/250' applied to denote the vehicle's status as a special edition.

Nothing changes mechanically, with the First Edition variants getting the 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 from the X5 M and X6 M Competition.

With 460kW of power and 760Nm of torque on tap, power runs through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic to all four wheels, propelling the SUVs from a standstill to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Of the eight First Edition models coming to Australia, four will be for the X5 M Competition and four for the X6 M Competition, from a total of 500 available worldwide.

In standard trim, the BMW X5 M Competition starts at $209,900 plus on-road costs, while the X6 M Competition begins at $213,900 plus on-road costs.

Pricing and further specification details for First Edition models will be announced closer to local arrival, with deliveries expected to begin in early 2021.
