2021 Jaguar XE price and specs: Jag’s mid-sizer goes all-wheel drive

The 2021 Jaguar XE has arrived, with buyers now benefiting from all-wheel drive as standard, a mild-hybrid system and updated technologies.

  • 2021 Jaguar XE moves to all-wheel drive
  • New Pivi Pro infotainment and safety tech
  • XE R-Dynamic Black available from $69,990 drive-away
  • XE R-Dynamic SE and HSE models to come

Jaguar has also announced a new XE R-Dynamic Black, with a drive-away price of $69,990.

By comparison, the MY20 range launched last year with prices of $65,570 for the SE R-Dynamic and $71,490 for the HSE R-Dynamic – both excluding on-road costs, and neither equipped with all-wheel drive.

Based on the XE R-Dynamic SE, the Black predictably gets the Black Exterior Pack with black grille and exterior trims, a boot lip-spoiler, 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels, red brake callipers, gloss black interior trim, steel sports pedals, and a Meridian audio system.

All up, Jaguar says the R-Dynamic Black adds an extra $6000 of value to the XE.

The R-Dynamic Black is the first from the XE range to be announced. Both the R-Dynamic SE and HSE models are expected before the end of 2020.

The mild-hybrid 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine, referred to as the 'P300' by Jaguar, puts out 221kW and 400Nm.

A new all-wheel-drive system now delivers the power via an eight-speed automatic transmission, getting the Jag to 100km/h from zero in 5.9 seconds.

Drive

Technology dominates the updated XE, with Jaguar's Pivi Pro offering Spotify, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual Bluetooth connectivity via a 10-inch infotainment screen.

Pivi Pro uses its own dedicated power source to minimise booting-up time, while its dual-SIM modem ensures media streaming is uninterrupted by background software updates.

Below it sits a second 5.5-inch screen with twin LED rotary controllers, while the driver gets a 12.3-inch high-definition digital instrument cluster with digital dials, navigation, media, phone contact list, or infotainment system displays. A head-up display is also standard.

Drive

The 2021 XE gets many of the interior updates seen on the XF and F-Pace, such as newer premium materials, embossed Jaguar Leaper logos on the front headrests, and a new steering wheel (borrowed from the I-Pace).

Occupants also enjoy cleaner air, with a cabin air ioniser and PM2.5 filter to remove airborne particulates.

On the safety front, the Jaguar XE is equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear collision monitor, and a 3D surround camera as standard.

The 2021 Jaguar XE R-Dynamic Black is available to order in Santorini Black, Yulong White, Firenze Red, Blue Fire Blue, and Eiger Grey, with deliveries expected to commence in early 2021.
