Nissan’s new-model onslaught: 12 new models over three years

Nissan showrooms will be overflowing with new or updated models over the next few years, as it aims to freshen-up its ageing line-up.

In addition to the just-released Nissan Juke city SUV and an updated Nissan Leaf electric car (now with more range), dealers have been told an updated Nissan Navara is due in local showrooms early 2021.

A leaked dealer presentation has revealed the Japanese car maker plans its biggest roll-out of new models in recent memory.

The Nissan Navara has been spotted in spy photos in Thailand and the Middle East but the confidential dealer presentation outlines that an updated Navara is not far away.

It is unclear what changes will be included however advanced safety aids will likely be at the top of the list, to keep the Navara current amid newer or recently updated competition in the highly competitive ute segment.

Dealers have been told Nissan is so pleased with the success of the Navara Warrior that it has committed to doing a Warrior version of the updated Navara, however its introduction will be staggered some months after the regular models.

Although exact timing is yet to be released, Nissan dealers have been told to expect a further three important new models in 2021, including the Nissan Patrol V8 Warrior, an all-new Nissan Qashqai small SUV, and new-generation Nissan Pathfinder seven-seat SUV, both of which for now remain under wraps.

Nissan will then back up the following year with more fresh metal, with running updates to the Nissan Patrol, and Nissan GT-R expected in late 2021, about the same time as the new Nissan 400Z sports car is due in local showrooms.

While exact timing for 2022 models is yet to be confirmed and is subject to change, dealers were told to expect a new-generation Nissan X-Trail mid-size SUV in 2022 followed by the pure electric Nissan Ariya SUV.

All plans outlined in the dealer briefing are yet to be confirmed and are subject to change, however dealers were assured the brand has a bright future with a raft of new models on the way.

The fresh metal can’t come soon enough for Nissan; sales so far this year are down by 30.7 per cent in a market that has slowed by 20.5 per cent to the end of September.

Nissan is part of an alliance with French car maker Renault and fellow Japanese car maker Mitsubishi.

While the three-way alliance is still in its infancy, the Nissan models coming in the next three years were planned and approved before the companies announced their new tie-up.

Earlier this year representatives for the alliance said all three companies would work closer on future models, which will include largely common bodywork across three different nameplates.
