Renault Megane eVision concept launched in France, production model slated for 2022

A 2022 production variant of Mégane eVision concept will join Renault's EV line-up alongside the ZOE, Twizy, Kangoo Z.E., and Master Z.E.

Renault has unveiled the Mégane eVision concept, with a production variant slated for launch in 2022.

Built on the all-new CMF-EV modular platform – which it shares with the similar-spec Nissan Ariya – power is sent to the front wheels via a 160kW electric motor.

Voltage is drawn from a 60kWh lithium ion battery pack, which, according to the manufacturer, is structurally integrated into the chassis and helps absorb energy in the event of a side collision.

While officially designated as a hatchback, the eVision’s 20-Inch alloys, short bonnet, high waistline, narrow glasshouse, and significant ground clearance helps create an aggressive stance comparable to that of an SUV crossover.

Measuring 4210mm from nose to tail, it is, however, shorter than the standard petrol-powered Mégane.

The external aesthetic draws heavily from the Morphoz concept launched earlier this year, however the sci-fi-inspired air scoops, wheel arches, and rear overhang have been toned down significantly.

Interior images are yet to be released, however a spokesperson for Renault said the cabin is a “masterclass in packaging,” and features a “flat ergonomic floor”.

The French manufacturer already builds the all-electric Zoe, Twizy, Kangoo Z.E., Master Z.E, and, via allied brand Nissan, the Leaf.

Earlier this month Forbes reported that the Renault-Nissan alliance has grown its EV sales beyond the point of self-sufficiency, and is now eating into Tesla profits with its own green credits program.
