2021 KTM X-BOW GTX launched with radical ‘jet fighter’ canopy, confirmed for Australia
The new track-only X-BOW from KTM is heavier than the roadster variant, but gets an enclosed cockpit, increased downforce, and a lot more power.
The 2021 KTM X-BOW GTX has been officially launched, equipped with a 'jet fighter' canopy and hypercar-rivalling power-to-weight figures.
The external aesthetic is defined by exposed carbon fibre panelling, a large front splitter, and a gooseneck-mounted rear spoiler.
To reduce drag on the KTM, traditional wing mirrors are replaced with rear-view cameras projecting to internal display screens.
Despite weighing 258kg more than the standard open top X-BOW roadster – tipping the scales at a-still-featherweight 1048kg – the GTX variant produces about 75 per cent more power.
Approximately 390kW is derived from the 2.5-litre turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine sourced from Audi, and drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential Hollinger gearbox.
This gives the car a power to weight ratio comparable to that of the Ferrari 812 Superfast.
No official acceleration figures have been announced, however customers can expect a zero to 100km/h time somewhere around three seconds.
When it comes to slowing back down again, the car has 378mm discs with six-piston callipers at the front, and 355mm discs at the rear with four-piston callipers.
Inside, custom moulded carbon-kevlar seats come standard, as do six-point racing harnesses.
Suspension is fully adjustable, while ABS and traction control setting can be configured to suite track conditions and driver preferences. The car also gets an FIA-approved roll cage and 120 FT3 safety tank, allowing it to compete in endurance formulas.
In Europe, the GTX is offered with a price tag of €230,000 (approximately AU$380,000).
A spokesperson for KTM's Australian distributor confirmed to CarAdvice that the vehicle will be sold locally, and said work has commenced on homologation for a road registrable variant.
