Mercedes-Benz confirms six all-new EQ electric models

A compact EQA will be launched later this year followed by an EQB in 2021, however these will be electrified variants of existing GLA and GLB vehicles.

Of the vehicles built on the all-new architecture, the EQS sedan (S-Class) will be the first on the market with initial deliveries slated for 2021.

The EQS will be produced alongside the standard and hybrid S-Class in the brand’s Sindelfingen "Factory 56," which is one of the world’s most technologically advanced manufacturing facilities.

However, earlier this year Ola Källenius – chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG, and head of Mercedes-Benz – told a panel of Australian journalists the EQS would be its own distinct entity: “It’s not our goal to say here’s another S-Class that looks exactly the same, it’s just a powertrain difference. It will be a different luxury tech proposition.”

The luxury limousine – which has a WLTP range of up 700km – will be followed by an EQS SUV, and an EQE model, also available in sedan and SUV configurations.

Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, together with the AMG and Maybach sub-brands, will reportedly get electrified models beginning next year.

Mercedes-Benz has publicly pledged to reach net carbon neutrality by 2039, and claims all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will account for more than 50 per cent of its sales before the end of this decade.
