Tesla owner to Elon: ‘Our roof just fell off’
The owner of a Tesla Model Y has claimed the vehicle's glass pane roof separated from its body while driving on a freeway in California.
In a video posted to Twitter, the owner directed their comments to Tesla boss Elon Musk, writing: "Why didn't you tell us that Tesla sells convertibles now? Because the roof of our brand new Model Y fell off on the highway".
On the Tesla Model Y, the entire roof panel is a single sheet of glass.
Someone claiming to be the owner's son posted additional information and photos on the website Reddit.
The person alleges the roof of the Model Y – a vehicle which is not currently sold in Australia – had flown off while driving on a freeway after just having taken delivery of their brand-new Tesla.

After returning the car to the dealership, it's alleged the manager commented on the possibility of the factory forgetting to apply sealant to the glass roof panel.
A number of people replied claiming similar issues with windscreens being incorrectly sealed on their own Tesla vehicles.
Only a month ago, Tesla Model Y owners reported components on their vehicles were secured using materials found in hardware shops.
In June 2020, the electric car company placed last in a study looking into car quality in the US. It was found owners experienced an average of two-and-a-half problems within the first 90 days of owning a brand-new Tesla.
