Audi Australia commits to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2021

A spokesperson for the manufacturer told Drive the commitment will relate to the energy consumption of all local business operations, and is set to come into effect from 2021.

Accredited through government regulator GreenPower, electricity will be sourced primarily from the Capital Wind Farm precinct near Tarago, New South Wales.

"Our 100 per cent renewable energy commitment, as a business, is in-line with what we believe should be the expectations placed upon us as a leader in sustainable mobility," said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.

Tim Stock, the Chairman of the National GreenPower Steering Group, said the decision represents an important step forward.

"GreenPower is pleased to partner with Audi on its journey to sustainability," Mr Stock said.

"Audi's commitment to GreenPower involves purchasing renewable energy certificates from its electricity retailer to offset the total annual energy usage from its business operations on an annual basis. This means that they can be confident that the renewable energy they are purchasing is from renewable sources and more importantly, enables the GreenPower program to accredit and assess the certificates that are coming from a renewable energy source."

The German luxury car company launched its all-electric E-Tron range range earlier this year, with vehicles available in SUV and Sportback configurations.
