Plus, a quirky Mercedes-Benz G-Class ad, a CarAdvice reader cameo and 2020's worst car interiors.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. This off-road-ready rendering of the Nissan Z Proto

Nissan's 370Z successor, the Nissan Z Proto, was unveiled last month and the big reveal immediately sparked hundreds of reactions, spin-offs and wishful renders.

We covered plenty of those photochopping creations here, but one popped up this week that caught our attention – especially as we're all partial to an off-road-ready makeover.

Courtesy of designer Rain Prisk, the rendering re-frames the Z Proto as a truck-esque 4x4 car, complete with roof tent.

We dig it.

2. This road trip in a electric-converted classic Land Rover Defender

In case you missed it, former Fifth Gear presenter Johnny Smith has wisely rebranded his YouTube channel (formerly known as CarPervert) and commenced producing content under the moniker The Late Brake Show.

One of his more recent videos sees him drive from rural Wales to central London in a 2015 Land Rover Defender that's been converted to an electric car by way of a Tesla Model S powertrain.

Called the E-Lander, it was created in collaboration with department store Selfridge's, apparently to raise awareness about sustainable shopping.

The video details the conversion process, but also features some stunning scenery and interesting experiential commentary on driving an EV.

You have to watch it if only to see the Defender's striking interior.

3. This rally calendar... featuring a snap from a CarAdvice reader!

At CarAdvice, we're lucky enough to have an engaged reader base who send us tips, share advice and experiences and are always up for some healthy banter in the comments.

As such, we like celebrating our readers' wins as they arise, particularly when they relate to the automotive world.

This week, we got an excited email from Matt Jelonek, who was pumped to spot the official calendar of the FIA World Rally Championship for 2021 because it features one of his photographs on the cover!

"I was like “wahhhhhhhh” this morning when I saw it. Couldn’t believe my eyeballs!" Matt said, and we don't blame him.

Especially since the calendar is actually almost a metre wide in real life! Kudos Matt – what a shot. You can buy the calendar here so you can enjoy Matt's work in person.

4. This extremely quirky Mercedes-Benz G-Class ad

We love when automotive advertising strays away from the typical 'shiny car driving through scenery' template.

A new ad from Mercedes-Benz advertising the G-Class certainly delivers on the weird factor.

At four-and-a-half minutes long, it documents a series of bizarre initiation tests for a new G-Class owner.

There's even a "your mum" joke thrown in for good measure.

Stay weird, Mercedes.

5. This list of 2020's 'worst car interiors'

A lot of writing about automotive design is subjective – which is why it's often so enjoyable to read.

Everyone likes to weigh in and debate based on the merits of their own personal taste.

So, as an excellent conversation starter, we recommend reading this Bloomberg article on 'The Worst Car Interiors of the Year'.

"They may turn heads on the road, but inside, these luxury cars are lacking," it begins.

Controversial picks abound – let us know what you think in the comments.
