2020 Lexus ES300h price and specs: Standard safety gets a boost

Prices rise as safety spec improves for Lexus hybrid mid-sizer.

  • 2020 Lexus ES300h sees prices increase ~1500-$2000 depending on variant
  • Safety specification improved
  • Three-variant range remains
  • Priced from $62,525 to $77,000 plus on-road costs

The 2020 Lexus ES300h has had a minor tweak to specifications, improving the mid-size luxury sedan's low-speed safety credentials, while also rolling out moderate price rises at the same time.

As part of the specification change from Lexus, all variants from the entry level ES300h up add Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking (RCTA-B), to complement the existing Intelligent Clearance Sonar and Parking Support Brake systems already fitted.

Designed as something of a preventative measure against parking-speed incidents, the trio of systems work at speeds of up to 15km/h either both forwards and in reverse. An alert sounds to warn the driver, before the brakes are applied to reduce the danger of a parking or pedestrian collision.

The ES300h Luxury also gains standard blind spot monitoring, previously offered as an Enhancement Pack option.

As before the range continues with Lexus Safety System+, incorporating all-speed Radar Active Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, Lane Tracing Assist and Lexus’ version of autonomous emergency braking, dubbed Pre-Collision Safety, incorporating pedestrian detection.

No changes have been made to the ES300h’s hybrid powertrain, with the same 2.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor combo as before, rated to a combined 160kW. A CVT automatic delivers drive to the front wheels only, with fuel consumption a claimed 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

Pricing for the ES300h Luxury starts from $62,525 plus on-road costs and includes a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Lexus Remote Touch Controller inputs running Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio and factory navigation, as well as Nulux leather-look upholstery, bi-beam LED headlights, keyless entry and start, powered tilt/slide sunroof, wireless phone charger, driver’s head-up display, power-adjustable front seats with heating, dual-zone climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Adding the available Enhancement Pack brings the price up to $68,875 plus on-road costs and adds 18-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats with memory and additional electric adjustment, a powered sunshade for the rear windscreen and 360-degree panoramic view camera.

The sporty ES300h F Sport from $71,500 plus on-road costs adds equipment like F Sport seats, F Sport adaptive variable suspension, an 8.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, 19-inch wheels and unique F Sport styling cues, three-eye LED headlights, plus a standard powered rear sunshade and 360-degree camera.

An F Port enhancement pack adds a hands-free powered bootlid, heated steering wheel and 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio and is priced from $75,500 plus on-road costs.

The range-topping ES300h Sports Luxury is available fully equipped from $77,000 plus on-road costs with no option packs and a list of standard equipment that includes 18-inch alloy wheels, three-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, power reclining rear seats, heated steering wheel with woodgrain accents, semi-aniline leather trim, manual rear side blinds and a powered rear sunshade, rear seat climate and seat controls in the centre armrest, plus 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio, 360-degree camera, and powered bootlid.
