Hyundai adds Elantra N to its TCR customer line-up

Hyundai Motorsport has taken the covers off its latest TCR race car, adding the Elantra N TCR to its stable of customer cars that also includes the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR.

The addition of the Elantra N TCR is designed to ensure maximum relevance in global markets, the sedan set to race in markets where the Elantra is sold.

The purpose-built race car shares the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the rest of the brand’s TCR stable. Outputs are rated at 261kW and 450Nm, with those numbers sent to the front wheels via an X-trac six-speed sequential gearbox via paddle-shifters.

“After three months of testing and development work I am very happy to finally be able to reveal the Elantra N TCR to the world,” said Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal Andrea Adamo.

“Staging the first public showing of the car in China shows our global plans for the cars to strengthen Hyundai Motorsport’s in race series around the world.

“By starting with a clean sheet of paper the Customer Racing department designers and engineers have been able to take advantage of the opportunity to further improve all-round performance of the car, as well as use all of the knowledge and experience gained from two years of racing with the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR.

“The Elantra N TCR will join them in our range of available TCR cars, and I am confident that it will share the same level of success.”

That success is prodigious, with Hyundai customers claiming nine TCR titles in various championships around the world, including the prestigious FIA World Touring Car Cup in 2018 and again in 2019. Additionally, Will Brown won the 2019 TCR Australia series in a Hyundai i30N.

Testing of the Hyundai Elantra N TCR started in June this year, with 2018 WTCR champion Gabriele Tarquini behind the wheel. Two versions are being developed, one for shorter sprint races, the other for endurance events.
