2021 McLaren Elva production cut once again

McLaren has once again cut production figures for its open-top Elva project, now suggesting that just 149 examples will be built.

Back in April the supercar maker slashed the initially-slated run of 399 examples to 249, citing a “customer desire for exclusivity”.

However, the company cites the coronavirus pandemic – and subsequent factory shutdown – for the latest round of cuts.

Inspired by Bruce McLaren’s M1A, M1B and M1C race cars of the 1960’s – which were built by British manufacturer Elva – the £1.4 million (AU$2.5M) supercar is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 599kW and 880Nm.

It is the lightest road-legal car ever built by McLaren, and will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in under three seconds.

The first deliveries will reportedly begin towards the end of 2020.
