General Motors teases GMC and Cadillac pickup concepts

General Motors Design has released renders of potential future pickup truck concept designs online.

While the vehicles are meant to be over-the-top – and are not intended for production – it's interesting to see how far they can push the limits of design when not having to worry about transforming a vehicle into a production or showroom reality.

There is no indication of what powertrains would drive these hypothetical vehicles: good old fashioned diesel V8 power, hybrid, or pure electric tech?

Revealed on Instagram, the first truck is a GMC with Denali badging.

Drive

Designed by Joe Boniface – a member of GMC’s Strategic Advanced Design team – the seemingly-caricatured dual-cab features triple-stacked headlights, dual rear wheels, and Gladiator-esque hub extensions.

Using the seats to judge scale, it could be estimated the vehicle is upwards of seven metres long.

The second render – also a GMC – was drawn up by Karan Moorjani, who is an exterior designer for the brand’s autonomous and electric vehicle division.

Drive

Despite looking slightly shorter, this truck has a far more aggressive and futuristic aesthetic.

It features deep sculpted door channels, two large air inlets on the bonnet, and a wedged profile.

The third appears to be badged as a Cadillac, and is only shown from directly in front.

With thin vertical headlights, substantial ground clearance, and sculpted air inlets, this design is arguably the most radical of the three.

In the real world, General Motors is currently working on two all-electric pick up projects.

The Hummer EV is set to launch late next month, while the scandal-ridden Nikola brand (in which GM acquired equity last month) still claims it will begin delivery of its Badger model in 2022.
