2017 Ford Transit models recalled due to electrical fault
Ford says a fuse in Transit and Transit Custom vans may not provide protection if the electric water pump fails.
Ford Australia has issued a recall of 2775 examples of the Transit Custom van with (2017 and 2019 model years, or MY17 to MY19 in Ford-speak), and 347 examples of the 2017 Transit (MY17), due to the potential for an electric water pump to overheat.
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the 15-amp fuse fitted may not provide satisfactory protection if a failure of the water pump occurs, which could lead to components melting and potentially causing a fire in extreme circumstances.
Affected Transit Custom vans were sold between 23 November 2016 and 27 May 2019, while the Transit was sold from 23 January 2017 through 23 July 2017. Ford is contacting owners to organise a free inspection and repair.
Ford Australia has told CarAdvice there have been no issues of the problem affecting owners locally.
