Toyota trademarks GR 010 name, likely for upcoming GR Super Sport hypercar
The Japanese manufacturer has been working on a street-legal version of its 735kW GR Super Sport Le Mans concept, and we may now know what it's called.
Toyota has filed a trademark for the GR 010 name in Europe, citing use for "automobiles and structural parts thereof."
It appears likely the designation is reserved for an upcoming street-legal variant of the brand's GR Super Sport concept, which was recently spotted testing at Le Mans.
The racing variant of the car – which was developed by Toyota's motorsport arm Gazoo Racing – is expected to compete in the new 'hypercar' class of the FIA World Endurance Championship when new regulations come into effect in 2021.

The originally demonstrated vehicle is driven by a 2.4-litre twin-turbo V6 and a set of electric motors that deliver a mammoth 735kW of power, however FIA regulations mean it will be limited to 500kW in competition.
When the concept was launched in 2018, Gazoo Racing boss Shigeki Tomoyama implied that the vehicle was part of bigger performance-based development for Toyota's road-going range.
"Although it will be some time before you all have the opportunity to get behind the wheel, I hope that the GR Super Sport Concept will give you a taste of what we aim to achieve with our next-generation [of] sports cars."
Earlier this year CarAdvice reported Toyota has filed patent documents for an articulated canopy system, and speculated this this too was likely destined for the road-legal version of the GR Super Sport.
No launch date, production figures, or pricing have yet been announced.
CarAdvice has contacted Toyota for comment, and this story will be updated if further information becomes available.
