Rare Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R fetches record sum at auction

Rare M-Spec Nür R34 GT-R sells for a record sum.

2002 Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R M-Spec Nür has set a new price record, selling at auction for close to AU$400,000.

While the price didn't quite meet the all-time highest price ever paid for an R34 GT-R of AU$420,000, it is the highest known amount paid for an M-Spec Nür.

The 2002 M-Spec Nür – the M is named after Nissan's chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno, and Nür is a nod to the famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany where it was developed – was one of the final production R34 Skyline GT-R models from Nissan and one of the rarest, with only 285 built.

Though V-Spec models are the most well-known of the special edition 'Godzillas' (the GT-R's popular nickname), the M-Spec is notable for Mizuno's stamp of approval.

Mizuno is also known as the godfather of the GT-R, having helped usher the model into existence.

The auction price of ¥30 million ($400K) is nearly double the auction price set for an R34 GT-r V-Spec in June 2020.

The highest price ever paid for a Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R was set in 2018, with the AU$420,000 V-Spec II Nür having only 10 kilometres on the odometer.
