Tesla could hit ‘record deliveries’ this quarter, according to leaked email – report
Target of 500,000 vehicles delivered could be achieved.
American electric car maker Tesla could be on track to achieve a record quarter for customer deliveries, according to a new report citing a leaked email from company CEO Elon Musk.
According to media outlet Electrek, Musk issued a rallying cry to his employees over email, encouraging them to work hard in order to close out the third-quarter (Q3) of this year on a high note.
“We have a shot at record quarter for deliveries, but we’ll have to rally hard to achieve it. This is the most number of vehicles per day that we’ would ever hd [sic] to deliver," the email reportedly read.
“Please consider vehicle deliveries to be the absolute top priority. It’s also extremely important that we keep factory output as high as possible over the remaining 10 days. This is vital for the California market.”
For Tesla to break its previous delivery record – set in the fourth quarter of 2019 – it would need to exceed 112,095 deliveries this quarter, in a decidedly more challenging climate.
It's possible Musk could also be referring to a third-quarter record for deliveries, with the number to beat for that record being 97,186 deliveries achieved in Q3 2019.
Despite production delays as a result of factory closures at the start of the year, Tesla's Q2 update did not see the company change its target of exceeding 500,000 vehicle deliveries by the end of 2020.
Factory closures aside, the company was still able to exceed expectations by producing 102,672 vehicles in Q1 2020 and another 82,272 in Q2 2020.
Musk's email comes ahead of the company's annual stockholders’ meeting and simultaneous Battery Day on September 22 (US time), where it's expected to unveil a series of battery technology developments.
Of the highly-anticipated event, Musk has tweeted only that it "will be very insane".
The eccentric CEO is known for sending these cryptic motivational emails to employees before the end of a financial quarter – at the end of Q2 2020 he encouraged staff to "go all out to ensure victory".
